Why Is Small Intestine Longer Than The Large Intestine

Small intestine is longer than large intestine because most of the absorption of food and digestion of food occurs in the small intestine while in the large intestine only water and some salts are absorbed here. Since small intestine performs more functions than large intestine, small intestine is longer than large intestine.
