- The smoke released from the factories and automobiles is the leading cause of release of carbon dioxide, carbon monoxide, and sulfur dioxide gases.
- The sulfur dioxide reacts with the water in the atmosphere to form the sulphuric acid which falls down in the form of rain called acid rain.
- The acid rain reacts with the marble of the Taj Mahal and thus loses its shine.
- The remedies include producing energy from alternative sources instead of using fossil fuels.
The measures taken to prevent the deterioration of Taj Mahal are as follows:
- To prevent rain damage and algae growth special silicone-based agents have been applied to the exterior side of the building.
- Battery charged buses around the Taj Mahal so that the structure does not get polluted by Carbon Monoxide.
- A green buffer zone (planting of trees and shrubs) is established around the Taj Mahal. The construction of Industrial plants has been reduced.
