Why is Taj Mahal losing its sheen ? Suggest some remedial actions

Dear Student,

Please find below the solution for your asked query:

Part 1-

The Taj Mahal is losing its sheen due to the following reasons:

Explanation:
  • The smoke released from the factories and automobiles is the leading cause of release of carbon dioxide, carbon monoxide, and sulfur dioxide gases.
  • The sulfur dioxide reacts with the water in the atmosphere to form the sulphuric acid which falls down in the form of rain called acid rain.
  • The acid rain reacts with the marble of the Taj Mahal and thus loses its shine.
  • The remedies include producing energy from alternative sources instead of using fossil fuels.
Part2-

The measures taken to prevent the deterioration of Taj Mahal are as follows:
  • To prevent rain damage and algae growth special silicone-based agents have been applied to the exterior side of the building.
  • Battery charged buses around the Taj Mahal so that the structure does not get polluted by Carbon Monoxide.
  • A green buffer zone (planting of trees and shrubs) is established around the Taj Mahal. The construction of Industrial plants has been reduced.
Hope this helps!
