Why is Taplow worried about his "remove".

Taplow needed to pass in Latin under Mr. Crocker Harris. To be removed and promoted to the next class he had to attend extra classes with the soon to retire Mr. Harris. But going by his reputation of being a strict and unforgiving teacher, Taplow was worried about his remove, because he was unsure if Crocker-Harris would promote him to the next class.
