The 18th century is regarded as the beginning of the history of modern India because this was the century when European powers began to acquire political power in India. With this, the earlier Mughal era of Indian history came to an end. Instead, new period of European domination began in which India would be exposed to the modern ideas and knowledge that were emerging in India.
