why is the camel called the ship of the desert

Camels are called ships of the desert because they carry very big loads from one side of the desert to the other. Camels walk four kilometers per hour through the hot desert. They can go like this for three weeks without water!

This is because it is only the animal who can walk on the soft sand of desert without sinking, can eat the prickly desert plant without pain and can store food in its hemp and water?in its blood and even carries people and loads. Camel is adapted to live in the desert with like this adaptive feature and thus called 'ship of the dessert '.

The skin of a camel is thick. The legs are long with cushioned soles. There is a fold of skin for protection of nostrils. The eyelashes are long and thick and thus they protect the eyes. Fat is stored in it's hump due to which it can survive for a long time without water. Due to all of such adaptations camel becomes most suitable to walk in the desert .Thus it is used as a means of transport and is called ship of the desert
