why is the fish heart called a venous heart? what type of blood circulation does it represent?

Fish heart is called venous heart as it only receives blood from veins and pumps it directly to the gills for oxygenation. In fish’s heart blood passes only once in one complete circuit. This type of blood circulation is known as single circulation and heart is known as single circuit heart.

The fish heart consist of two chambers atrium and ventricle. The arterial (oxygenated)blood come from the gills and gains arteries towards the tissues, then the venous blood is collected by veins and reaches the atrium of the heart passing to the ventricle that pumps the venous blood to the gills to be again oxygenated.after oxygenation in the gills the arterial blood goes to the tissues.Since the whole blood is in the heart is venous(deoxygenated). So it is called as venous heart.
