why is the foundation of a building wider than its wall?

Hi,
@ Amith, Good effort. Keep writing!
We know pressure is the amount of force applied perpendicular per unit area. Force acting on small area it exerts large pressure and the force acting on the large area exerts less pressure.
The foundation of the building holds the whole weight of it. We make it wide so that the force applied by the building wouldn’t exert much pressure on earth.
In the similar way when you carry a bag with thin straps you feel pressure on your shoulders but it is easy to carry a bag of broad straps. This is also because of the same reason, the thin straps has small area so exert large pressure and broad straps has large area so exert small pressure.
Hope, now it is clear to both of you.
Best wishes!!

fountation is the base of building on which the building has to stand.

it has to manage the whole weight of the building.

but walls are to hold the roof and cover the building.
