why is the gene encoding for cry proteins inserted in to a crop plant?

Dear student,
Please find below the solution to the asked query

Cry proteins are encoded by cry genes. These proteins are toxins that kill insect pests of crop plants. They are produced by Bacillus thuringiensis bacteria. These cry genes have been separated and introduced by Recombinant DNA technology in many plants like cotton plant to provide them with resistance to insect pests.

Hope this information will clear your doubts about the cry genes.
