Why is the peristaltic movement of small intestine considered as a reflex?

Dear student,

The Gastrocolic reflex controls the motility or peristalsis of the Gastrointestinal tract.
It involves increase in motility of the colon which contains migrating contractions in response to stretch of the stomach and the byproducts of the digestion in the small intestine. It is an involuntary activity.
Hence due to these events it is considered as a reflex.
