Why is there a difference between literacy rate for males and females in India?

Differences occur between literacy rate of male and female because:

a. Girls are not sent to schools for education. There is a biased attitude towards a male child.
b. School drop out rates among girls are high as they are expected to do household work.
c. They are not encouraged to go to schools situated in far off areas.
d. Poor economic condition of parents.
e. Fewer schools exclusively for girls in rural areas.
f. Early marriage of female child.
g. Indifferent attitude of parents towards girls's education.

1) Unawareness amongst the masses.
2) Many people in India still have mentality that girls are meant for involvement in domestic work.
3)Preference is given to male child than the female one.

Because even today many people feel that girls are meant for household chores but not meant to study.
Many parents want their daughters to be married as they feel them as a burden.
