Why IUPAC Name of [NiCl4]2- is tetrachloridonickelate(II)ion when Nickel is itself acting as a cation?...bcz i think it should be tetrachloridonickel(II)ion

Dear student, the coordinate complex are either cationic, anionic or neutral. If it is anionic, the name of the complex ends eith 'ate' after the name of the metal. But what you think is correct for the cations and neutral complex. As you can see the complex has net negative charge over it, it is so named. Regards
