Why low rate of evaporation and transpiration favours root pressure?

Dear student,
The low rate of evaporation and transpiration favors the root pressure. It is a transverse osmotic pressure which occurs in the root cells and causes the water and minerals to rise in the plant with help of xylem. It occurs when soil moisture level is high or it is less transpiration. This is because when the rate of transpiration is low, the xylem sap is under pressure which increases the root pressure rather than tension. Thus, without transpiration, accumulation of nutrient ions occurs in root xylem which lowers the water potential and increases the root pressure.Water diffuses from soil into root xylem due to osmosis and this accumulation of the water in the root xylem causes the root pressure on the rigid cells.
