Why neanderthal man and modern belong two distinct species

Although, both Neanderthal man and modern man belong to the same breed, they are separate species. Due to evolution, the Neanderthal man got evolved into the modern man that has many advanced characters as compared to Neanderthal man. That is why they are considered as separate species.
