Why net is required in vermicompost ??

In vermicomposting, red worms are used to convert organic wastes into nutrient rich manure and humus. They are very efficient in decomposing organic wastes into nutrient rich manure.
So we need to have earthworms.
We use wire net / bamboo net to protect earthworm from birds
