why octopus and squids stay near sea bed only ???

Dear student,

Under the Phylum Mollusca, Octopus and Squid both belong to the class Cephalopoda. These animals do not have streamlined shape like other sea animals possess. In other sea animals the streamlined bodies help them to move easily in water. But Octopus and squid do not have streamlined bodies therefore, they stay deeper in the ocean, near the seabed. This enabled them to catch any prey that moves towards them. However, when they move in water they make their body shapes streamlined. These animals have gills to help them use oxygen dissolved in water.

Regards.
