Why only counting the QRS complexes determines the heart beat of an individual why not any other like P and T determines the heart beat of an individual?

Dear student,
Heart rate is determined by the  ventricular contraction which is represented by the QRS complex. QRS complex occurs at the same rate across the ECG trace which shows that one heart beat has taken place. Therefore QRS complex is used to determine heart beat of an individual.
