why only paraffin oil is used in ditermining boiling and melting points? any other solvent can be used insted of paraffin oil?

Paraffin oil is used for determination of boiling point and melting point for the following  reasons:
  1. It has a very high boiling point and so it can be used to maintain high temperatures in the boiling and melting point apparatus without loss of the substance.
  2. It is liquid at room temperature and can maintain even temperature in boiling point/melting point apparatus convection.
Any oil that is a liquid at room temperature and has a high boiling point like paraffin oil can be used instead of paraffin oil.  Examples are mineral oil, coconut oil, olive oil.
