Why sodium hydroxide solution is formed near cathode in chlor -alkali process?I Know it is formed at cathode
But why?
Why it doesn't form near anode???
Dear Student,
At anode:-
2Cl-→Cl2+2e-
At cathode:-
2H2O+2e-→H2+2OH-
The non-permeable ion exchange membrane at the center of the cell allows Na+ ions to pass in the chamber containing OH- ions and hence NaOH formed at the cathode.
Regards.
