Why Surat began to decline in the end of 17th century ?? plz give answer in points.

Dear student,

Please find below the solution to the asked query.

Surat began to decline towards the end of the seventeenth century because of many factors:

(i) the loss of marketplaces and yield because of the failure of the Mughal Empire
(ii) Competition from Bombay (present-day Mumbai) where the English East India Company shifted its headquarters in 1668.
(iii) Domination of the sea routes by the Portuguese
