why the current is called conventional current?

The current is called conventional current, because the current is flowing in the direction in accordance to conventional rule, that is from positive to negative. The direction of conventional current is taken as the direction opposite to the direction of flow of electrons. In a circuit, electrons flow from negative terminal to the positive terminal, while current flows from positive terminal to negative terminal.
