Why the ironmaster not pleased to see the well groomed peddler ?

THE IRONMASTER WAS NOT PLEASED TO SEE THE PEDDLER WELL GROOMED BECAUSE THE NIGHT BEFORE HE HAD SEEN HIM IN DARK AND DUE TO SHADOWS AND IMPROPER VISION HAD MISTAKEN HIM FOR AN OLD REGIMENTAL COMRADE. BUT IN BROAD DAYLIGHT HE COULD CLEARLY SEE THAT IT WAS SOME STRANGER AND THOUGHT THAT THE PEDDLER HAD DECEIVED HIM BY NOT REVEALING THE TRUTH AND THREATENED TO HAND HIM OVER TO THE SHERIFF.

What justification did the peddler give on sensing the ironmaster’s fury?

But when the peddler was taken to home and groomed him, his real identity revealed out. The ironmaster was believed that he was being deceived by the man. Hence he was not pleasant and was filled with anger and threatened him that he will call police.
