Why was Gandhi summoned to appear in the court? How did he gain liberty?

The British commissioner had asked Gandhi to leave Tirhut, but Gandhi disobeyed the order. Instead he went to Motihari along with some lawyers. Here he was served with an official notice to quit Champaran immediately. He signed the receipt of the notice but also wrote on it that he would disobey the order. He was summoned in the court because he has refused to obey the order of the police superintendent. Gandhi telegraphed Rajendra Prasad to come there with some influential friends. In the morning the whole town of Motihari was full of peasants. Seeing his influence on the people he government officials decided to free him but Gandhi refused to go. In the end he was released on bail which he refused to pay so eventually he was set free.
