Why was Shastri unhappy in Ranga's Marraige?

Shastri was unhappy when the narrator mocked him by saying he had just followed what the narrator had said. That had brought success to the plan of the narrator to get Ranga married. Shastri was upset and said it was partly the narrator's directions that had led him to say so; but, it was mainly his own calculations based on astrology.
