why water is not suitable for extinguishing petrol fire ? pls giv answer accordint to 3 marks

We cannot pour water on petrol fire because on pouring water can cause more fire as oil is light than water ,it will float on water n will continue to burn. Instead we should cover it by a blanket . So that there will be no contact with oxygen as oxygen is essential factor of burning.
