Why we don't need to prove axioms and postulate ?

They typically don't require proof because their validity is intrinsic; the outline of an axiom should be logically self-evident. In more complicated cases, axioms may cite results of other proofs for expedience. How do you convince someone that a particular statement is not an axiom but has a proof?
