Without actual division find the remainder when 379843 is divided by 3

A number is divided by three, if the sum of its digit is divisible by 3.

Sum of digit of the number 379843= 3+7+9+8+4+3= 34

34 is not divisible by 3. But, 34 – 1 = 33 is divisible by 3.

So, 379842 is divisible by 3.

Thus, 379843 when divided by 3, leaves the remainder 1.

To find divisibility of a number by 03, The sum of the digits of the number should be divisible by 3.
Here, 3+7+9+8+4+3= 26
26 is not divisible by 3, so to find the remainder we will subtract the nearest no. to 26 which is divisible by 3 i.e. 27
So 27-26 = 1
Remainder is thus = 1
