Worker's chit-chatting in the canteen is Informal Communication.
Understanding Informal Communication: Informal Communication refers to the interchange of information unoficially. This communication is based on informal relations (like friendship, membership of same club, the same place of birth, etc.) and therefore, is free from all organisational formalities.
The exchange of informal message (as in this case also) takes place on the occassion of coomunity meals, social occassions, parties, etc. Moreover, this type of communication is called as grapevine communication because there is no definite channel of communication.
