Would you agree that the ?depths of oppression? create ?heights of character?? How does Mandela illustrate this? Can you add your own examples to this argument?

Dear Student,

Yes, it is true that depths of oppression create heights of character. Nelson Mandela illustrates a few such characters. He identifies Oliver Tambo, Walter Sisulu, Chief Luthuli, Yusuf Dadoo, Bram Fischer and Robert Sobukwe as people of extraordinary character who faced the British oppression with courage. In India, the freedom struggle created men of character like Mahatma Gandhi and Sardar Patel.
