- The North Indian State of Uttarakhand faced devastating floods and landslides in June 2013.
- The reason of the floods can be attributed to the cloudburst in that area.
- Parts of Himachal Pradesh and Uttar Pradesh also experienced heavy rainfall leading to flood like situations.
- The roads, bridges and houses were severely destroyed.
- The flood also took around 6000 lives.
- Major pilgrim sites such as Kedarnath, Hemkunt, Badrinath were badly affected by the floods. People were stranded here for more than 3 days.
- The Army, Navy, Indo Tibetan Border Force, Border Security Force, National Disaster Response force carried out quick rescue operations.
- However, the rescue operation was a tough task because of rough terrain and severe fog.
- Center and State governments have announced a handsome amount of funds to be used to compensate people for the damage.
- Apart from the cloud burst, Land encroachment, deforestation etc can also be stated as the cause of floods.
