On returning, they found their house in completely ransacked by hooligans and the diamond missing.
The police was informed. The next day, another surgeon at the hospital came across the same diamond while operating on a young man with something lodged in his intestine. He and one of the hospital theatre sisters took it to the same local jeweller to have it appraised. The jeweller recognised it as Dr. Sandy’s and called up the police. In the meantime Sandy also reached the spot. Towards the end Mr. Sandy came to the conclusion that the young hooligan had evidently made himself a drink in Dr. Sandy’s house, and he’d swallowed the ice cube!
