Animal feed is the food given to domestic animals in the course of animal husbandry.

The feeds which have high density of nutrients and are low in fibre content are referred as concentrates. They have more of digestible nutrients.

Concentrates used in animal feeds are cereals ( wheat, rice), grains and millet by products.

There are two types of animal feed:

1. Roughage  2. Concentrate

 Roughage  Concentrate
Rich in fiber.  Low in fiber
Low protein and other nutrients. Rich in protein and other nutrients.
Example: Wheat bran  Example : Oil cakes

Animal feed is the food given to domestic animal in the course of animal husbandry. There are 2 basic types -
Fooder
Forage
Fooder refers particularly to foods or forages given to the animals (including plants cut and carried to them), rather than that which they forage for themselves. It includes?hay,?straw,?silage, compressed and pelleted feeds, oils and mixed rations, and sprouted grains and?legumes.?Feed grains?are the most important source of animal feed globally. The amount of grain used to produce the same unit of meat varies substantially.?
Forage?is plant material (mainly plant leaves and stems) eaten bygrazing?livestock. Historically, the term?forage?has meant only plants eaten by the animals directly as?pasture,?crop residue, or immature?cereal?crops, but it is also used more loosely to include similar plants cut for?fodder?and carried to the animals, especially as?hay?or?silage.
