Write a short note on electric cell and bulb

Dear Student

An electric cell is a device that converts chemical energy to electrical energy. A simple electric cell is made up of an electrolyte and two electrodes. The electrolyte is a conductive solution containing anions (negatively charged ions) which moves towards the anode (negative electrode)and cations (positively charged ions) moves towards the cathode (positive electrode). So, we have an excess of electrons in the anode (which is the negative terminal of the cell) and a deficiency of electrons in the cathode (which is the positive terminal of the cell).

In an electric bulb there are two metal contacts at the base which connect to the ends of an electrical circuit. The metal contacts are attached to two stiff wires which are attached to a thin metal filament. You can observe this filament in the middle of the bulb, held up by a glass mount. The wires and the filament are housed in a glass bulb, which is filled with an inert gas, such as argon.

The current flowing through the filament of the bulb heats the filament and makes it to emit light in the visible range. The power dissipated in the filament is given by P = VI = I2R. Where, V is the voltage applied across the filament, I is the current through the filament and R is the resistance of the filament.
