  • -2

The Quit India Act or the August Movement was a civil disobedience movement launched in India in August 1942 in response to Mohandas Gandhi's call for 'Satyagraha' . The All-India Congress Committee proclaimed a mass protest demanding what Gandhi called "an orderly British withdrawal" from India. The call for determined, but passive resistance appears in his call to Do or Die, issued on 8 August at the Gowalia Tank Maidan in Mumbai on year 1942

the civil disobidience act was launched with the historic dandi march in 1930. it was undertaken by mahatma gandhi and many of his suppoters as a mark of protest against the grossly unjust salt laws the british government had imposed on indians. according to salt laws british had the sole to manufacture salt in india . to make it worse, heavy taxes were leived on purchase of salt.

mahatma gandhi walked 400km from sabarmati to dandi on 6 april 1930. he picked up handful of salt and bokr the british salt laws and set trend fpr the civil disobidience movement that followed
