Dear student,
Please find below the solution to the asked query

Peptic ulcer is the abnormality of the lining of stomach or duodenum which protects the organ from its acidic secretion.  Its symptoms include nausea, upper abdominal pain, feeling of fullness etc.

The primary cause for this disease was described by Barry Marshall and Robin Warren in 2005. They discovered that a bacterium known as Helicobacterium pylori causes peptic ulcers and received nobel prize for this discovery. This bacteria has high affinity for acidic environments and so stomach (which is acidic) gets affected in Peptic ulcer disease. Earlier, the cause for this disease was considered to be stress or unhealthy lifestyle.

Finding: The biopsy reports of 50% patients showed colonies of bacteria in the antrum.

Importance: This discovery was  important because after knowing the cause of peptic ulcers, medicines for its treatment were developed.
