Write a short paragraph of 150 to 200 words on the emotions portrayed in the poem " when you are old"

Dearstudent,

'When you are old' is a poem by W B Yeats and is understood to have an autobiographical undertone: Yeats' unfulfilled love towards the famous Maud Gonne. He had proposed to her innumerable times and had been rejected repeatedly. But, the emotions expressed in the poem are not topical in nature, they are universal. In it, the speaker addresses his beloved and reminds her of her many admirers: people who worshipped her for her beauty and grace. But, these attributes are transient: age robs all of lustre and shine! He then pictures his beloved as an old lady, bent and grey. He gently reminds her that she might come to regret that she did not commit to the one person who truly loved her: not just her outward beauty but also her true self, her soul. He may be a rejected lover, but his devotion is steadfast.

Regards
