Newspaper is a printed mental breakfast along with morning cup of tea. Newspaper and magazine play important role in means of communication. It provides us information collected from around the globe daily. It contains news ,advertisement and articles on various subject. They take the role of spokesmen for people of all classes . It has a great social and educational value. So it is also called as ‘peoples university‘. On one hand ,they acts as a bridge between the government and public. They help in preventing social exploitation. In other words, developing countries like India has lots of poor and illiterate people. The selfish motives of politicians may deceive the poor and illiterates with false promises. The newspaper helps in spreading public opinions. They help the people aware about the activities and corruption in the present. It helps in fighting against the menace of corruption. Its one of the roles of the news paper to make the public aware of practices prevalent in various departments of government and other agencies. In addition to this ,they act as a link between government and public and make them aware about the policies,programs,and activities of government. They also publish day-today problems faced by the public as a notice to government authority. On the other hand , different people read the newspaper for different purposes. Businessmen read newspaper for knowing latest possibilities in business or changes in the needs of the society, budget, marketing money values things like that. Students need to know current news, results of sports and games,new fashion trends etc. Some others look out for zodiac and matrimonial where ladies mostly search for cookery,fashion trends,rate of gold,timings of favorite televisionprograms. Job seekers eagerly scan for employment news , advertisement while farmers peep for weatherupdates . There are others interested in the articles or editorial. It shows that how excited and curious are people in every mornings for the arrival of news paper. More over , Newspaper give us the latest information on local ,national , and international events. They serve as a platform for discussion on public issues . They focus on social and political evils prevailing in the society. Some of these evils are dowry,drinking,drug addiction acts against women and children. Journalists are the superman moving across and fetching all these into public view through press. Further more ,press is the mirror of the society. It acts as a watch-dog of democracy. The fearless journalist work for the press. He is the one must know many languages. He is doing one of the most difficult professions. He cannot be a clock watcher,he has to be physically tough, mentally agile and should have enormous capacity . The journalist must have the capacity to investigate,ask and search questions and do research. A reporter is the judge and he cannot take sides of any. They highlight and pinpoint the lapses of community as well as government. Finally ,news papers could make a great impact on its readers. So they should concentrate on giving only true picture of the society. Information is fed to the newspapers by a number of agencies. The press information bureau gives information to the press. It receives feedback from public. Indiahas four major news agencies – Press Trust Of India, United News of India , Samachar Bharati and Hindustan Samachar. The news paper published in English, Hindi , and regional languages. The first news paper published in india was THE BENGAL GAZETTE. The Bombay samachar is the oldest existing news. It was published in Gujarat in 1822. In conclusion, the daily printed publication is a central vein of the public. It mobilize public opinion.
