# Write about Ramanujan in 50 words and the sum of all natural numbers. How did he die?

Srinivasa

**Ramanujan**, (born December 22, 1887, Erode, India—died April 26, 1920, Kumbakonam), Indian mathematician whose contributions to the theory of numbers include pioneering discoveries of the properties of the partition function. He is recognised as one of the greatest mathematicians of his time, but Srinivasa Ramanujan had almost no formal training in math.He was the second Indian to be inducted as a Fellow of the Royal Society, which is a Fellowship of some of the world’s most eminent scientists.

He was diagnosed with

**tuberculosis**and a severe vitamin deficiency at the time, and was confined to a sanatorium. In 1919 he returned to Kumbakonam, Madras Presidency, and soon thereafter, in 1920, died at the age of 32.

$\mathrm{Sum}\mathrm{of}\mathrm{all}\mathrm{natural}\mathrm{numbers}\mathrm{is}\phantom{\rule{0ex}{0ex}}\mathrm{i}.\mathrm{e}.\phantom{\rule{0ex}{0ex}}1+2+3+4+5+...=\frac{-1}{12}$

Note: sum of n natural numbers is given by :

$\frac{\mathrm{n}\left(\mathrm{n}+1\right)}{2}$
