2. The people of Bastar revolted against the British in 1905 as the government proposed to reserve two- thirds of the forests which reduced the source of livelihood of the village people. The people used forest produce for consumption, practised shifting cultivation and hunting as well. All this came to a standstill due to the reservation of forests by the British.  Apart from this, the people also had to face increased land rents, demands for free labour and goods by colonial officials. The rebellion was stated by the Dhurwas of the Kanger forest.
