1)  Satavahanas is a dynasty which became powerful in Western India 2500 years ago and its most important ruler of this dynasty is Gautamiputra Shri Satakarni

2)  He along with other rulers was known as lords of the dakshinapatha, which means the route leading to South. They competed with Sunga dynasty and Kanva dynasty to establish their rule in India

3)  They are known for their patronage of Hinduism and Buddhism and they formed a cultural bridge and played a vital role in trade as well as the transfer of ideas and culture to and from the Indo – Gangetic plain to the southern tip of India

4)  The Satavahanas are the first native Indian rulers to issue their own coins with portraits of their rulers
