newspaper article: Water scarcity is fast becoming urban India's number one woe, with government's own data revealing that residents in 22 out of 32 major cities have to deal with daily shortages.The worst-hit city is Jamshedpur, where the gap between demand and supply is a yawning 70%. The crisis is acute in Kanpur, Asansol, Dhanbad, Meerut, Faridabad, Visakhapatnam, Madurai and Hyderabad — where supply fails to meet almost 30% of the demand — according to data provided by states which was placed in the Lok Sabha during the recently-concluded Parliament session by the urban development ministry.The figures reveal that in Greater Mumbai and Delhi — which have the highest water demand among all cities — the gap between demand and supply is comparatively less. The shortfall is 24% for Delhi and 17% for Mumbai. However, the situation is worse than that.

Water is becoming a limited natural resource in the world. In an article published on National Geographic website about Fresh Water Crisis [1] it has mentioned that out of the 70% of water which is covering the earth, only 2.5% is suitable for drinking and just 1% of fresh water is easily accessible. In the same article the author talks about how people are wasting this limited resource. The growing scarcity of water is due to the rapid growth of population, rising demand for food and cash crops, increasing urbanization and rising standard of living. On the other hand people are writing articles and papers about how to solve this scarcity issue and all the resources presented about conservation of water as a solution.I have heard people talking about scarcity of water, but until the day I read the above-mentioned article [1] I didnt realize it was this bad. In another article I read which was written by Michael Parfit, writer for National Geographic mentioned the following,There is no water, there is no life.. We live by the grace of water.She was talking about what will happen if the water scarcity problem was not solved. So theres a need to make people aware of this matter. For a person like me I had this misconception, 70% of the earth is covered with water and therefore we dont have to care about water scarcity this soon. I really suspect most of people are still thinking in the same manner. In this paper therefore I am going test on peoples opinion on water scarcity problem and what is there stand on going about solving it. I strongly believe that by taking the survey people will be more aware of the water scarcity issue and they will act accordingly.
