Good morning everyone present. I feel immensely privileged to have got the opportunity to express my views on "Electronic gadgets have made life completely graceless”. I am going to speak in favour of the motion.
As a student I strongly feel that these gadgets such as TV, mobile phones, computers and gaming consoles, etc, are adversely affecting the overall development of our children. This addiction is making them physically, mentally and morally weak and vulnerable. Are we going to be a nation of weaklings? Facebook and Twitter have become source of major distractions for students. Young boys and girls seem to have become inordinately addicted to these gadgets. They are thoughtlessly and uselessly wasting their precious time.
Wise people say time well utilized is time well spent, but the youth of today is only and only wasting time on chatting, messaging, uploading photographs and modifying profiles. The smart phones and 3G connections have made the situation worse. Accessing obscene, vulgar, and indecent sites has become so easy that young boys and girls are using these sites almost everywhere and almost all the time. I ask you a question’, Where will this lead to?’ Are we heading towards only Facebook and Twitter perfection? Where are the objectives of attaining the status of an advanced country? There are so many challenges that we as a nation face. Challenges, such as population, poverty, unemployment, corruption, pollution, mismanagement of our natural resources, etc. Is it not a pathetic attitude of our youth to lose such objectives out of sight and instead waste their time, money and energy on such social networking sites so recklessly?
Not only corrupting their morals, these gadgets are making people weak and and disease prone also. These gadgets don’t let them play outdoor games. The radiation emission from these gadgets also affect them adversely in many ways.
I strongly believe that the parents, teachers and the government must look into the problems being caused by these networking sites and must formulate a strategy either to curb or completely stop its fast growing negative influence on the minds of our youth. I am sure that with our concerted efforts, we shall be able to remove this problem of addiction of our youth to social networking sites.
