Write chemical equation reactions taking place when carried out with the help of
(a) Iron reacts with steam
(b) Magnesium reacts with dil HCl
(c) Copper is heated in air.

Solution
a)

Iron reacts with steam to form iron (II, III) oxide and hydrogen gas. This oxide is denoted by the chemical formula Fe3O4. Following is the chemical equation for the reaction

3Fe (s) + 4H2O (g) → Fe3O4 (s) + 4H2 (g)

b)When magnesium metal reacts with dil. HCl, it forms magnesium chloride and hydrogen gas is evolved in the process. The balanced equation for the following reaction can be-
Mg(s) + 2HCl(dil.) -----> MgCl2 + H2(g)

c)Copper Oxide when heated in atmosphere of Hydrogen it reduces in elemental copper with release of water vapours.The chemical reaction for this process
2 Cu + O 2   ----> 2 CuO
