write down the anatomical features of a monocot stem.

The following are the anatomical features of monocot stems:
  1. Multicellular hairs or trichomes seen in dicot stems are absent in monocot stems.
  2. The hypodermis region is made up of sclerenchyma.
  3. The ground tissue is composed of a mass of uniform cells, unlike dicots where distinct layers such as cortex, endodermis and pericycle is present.
  4. Vascular bundles are numerous and scattered in the ground tissue.
  5. Vascular bundles are smaller near the periphery and progressively increase in size towards the centre.
  6. Vascular bundles are collateral and closed.
  7. Oval or round shaped xylem vessels are seen arranged in the form of  Y.
  8. Sieve tubes and companion cells are exclusively present in phloem.
  9. Vascular bundle are surrounded by sclerenchymatous bundle sheath.
  10. Medullary rays and pith are absent.
  11. No secondary growth is seen in these stems since cambium is absent.
