1.a. Bastar was occupied by many different tribal communities such as Gonds, Dhurwas, Bhatras and Halbas.
b. These communities were dependent on forest produce for satisfying their basic needs.
c. Some communities practised shifting cultivation as well.
d. During the colonial period many forests were declared as reserved and the village communities which lie within the vicinity of forests were displaced. Their sourced of livelihood declined.
e. The tribal communities of the villages faced humiliation at the hands of the colonial officers who disrespected their traditions and customs , put forward demands of free labour and commodities.All these affected the life of the tribal communities.
