write the relationship between productivity , gross primary productivity , net primary productivity and secondary productivity
Dear student
GPP - R = NPP where
GPP = gross primary productivity.
NPP= net primary productivity.
R = loss of biomass due to respiration.
1. Productivity : The rate of biomass production is called productivity.
2. Gross Primary Productivity : It is the rate of production of organic matter during photosynthesis. A considerable amount of GPP is utilized by plants in respiration.
3. Net Primary Productivity : A major part of GPP is utilised by the plants in the respiration. The remaining available biomass for consumption by heterotrophs (herbivores and decomposers) constitute net primary productivity.
hope it helps
