X,Y&Z are the partners sharing profits in the ratio 3:2:1. Y retires from the firm and gifted 1/2 of his share in favour of X and sells remaining share to X&Z in the ratio 1:2. find out gaining ratio & new ratio.

Dear Student,

Old share of X,Y & Z is 3:2:1

Y retires, gifts & sells his share

X's new share = Old share + Share gifted by X + share sold by Y
i.e. 36+12×26+13×26-16=36+16+118=1318

Z's new share = Old share + share sold by Y

16+2326-16=16+19=518

So new share of X & Z is 13:5

Gaining ratio of X = 1318-36=418
Gaining ratio of Z = 518-16=218
So Gaining ratio is 4:2 or 2:1

Regards,
