XeF2 has a straight linear structure and not a bend angular structure. give reasons

The hybridisation state of Xe in XeF2 is sp3d ,so its geometry istrigonal bipyramidal . Now , we have to arrange 2 F's and 3 lone pairs such that the repulsions are less,in order to do it the 2 F's must be kept far from each other(axial position) and 3 lone pairs on equatorial position.so it acquires linear structure.

As XeF2 has 5 pairs electron around Xe forming a sp3 hybridisation. Therefore, it's geometry is linear.

Xe 2 has 10 unpaired electron in structure .In this 2 flourine atom occupy equitorial position while 3 loan pair occupy axial position that's why it has linear structure

In XeF2 molecule there is 3 lone pairs and according to VSPER theory lone is stable at equitorial position so F atom is present at axial position due to which it's structure is linear.
