New Delhi,3 April: Some parts of the country yesterday observed a Bharat Bandh in protest to the atrocities against the Dalits The protests were centred in Uttar Pradesh, Bihar and Madhya Pradesh. Activists from around the country showed up and raised their voices against the judicial system. They believe that the government is not paying much attention to their communities. The leaders of the Bandh have made various requests to the government only to no avail. The protesters burned down buses and cars. They hit shopkeepers and closed their shops. The police lathi-charged on them but they did not stop damaging the property. Around 12 have been reported dead in UP, 7 in MP and the numbers from Bihar is still unknown. The protests have been extended up to April 14. The Bandh leaders have issued an ultimatum to the government. If the government fails they plan a countrywide agitation. No comments have been received from the government on this. According to sources, the government has invited the leaders for peace talks.
