Subject: Inconvenience of foreign visitors

Dear Sir,

I wish to invite your kind attention to the harassment faced by foreign tourists in our city by the auto rickshaw drivers and vendors in the market. Foreigners visit India with the hope of witnessing beautiful cultures and colorful cities and towns. They visit Delhi with an intention to gain first hand view of a place, which has numerous stories to tell through its historical monuments and myriad cultures.

However, they feel highly disappointed when they are tricked by the  auto rickshaw drivers and vendors in the market. These people almost attack them with numerous offers, often irritating them significantly. They not only try to cheat them by charging high prices, but also pester them with unnecessary deals.  Some of these uncivilized people even pass comments on the female foreigners.

Such behavior creates a bad impression about the whole country in the minds of the foreigners. They begin to feel uncomfortable in travelling  alone in our country and find themselves restricted. Their feelings, in turn, get transferred to their relatives and friends and they also start thinking twice before visiting India. This eventually hampers tourism.

Keeping in mind such detrimental effects of such unwarranted behavior on the part of the  auto rickshaw drivers and vendors in the market, I would request you to spread awareness about the need of being hospitable to foreigners. Since these people mostly read Hindi dailies, and yours is a popular choice, I would  urge you to publish articles in it that could make them aware of the things they need to do to make a popular tourist destination among foreign visitors. I feel that such articles would surely help in improving the current situation.

Yours faithfully

Shaurya
