English is a funny language, they say… It is also one of the most studied, spoken and used language in the world. The structure and history of the language are so vast, that its grammar portion itself becomes a new study subject altogether. Also, English has many words… Like many many many words. You have words that describe, words that define, words that substitute other words and those that are opposites of other words. With around 6, 00,000 words in current use and 47,156 obsolete words according to Oxford Dictionary, the language is bound to have a few words that are hilarious and weird!

So for the sake of an interesting read, and (also to add to your vocabulary, mind you!), we have brought together a list of 50 words that will make you laugh, learn, think… Not just that, guess who would have several new words to use, the next time they are having a conversation with their friends! Read on…

1. Abibliophobia: This word refers to the fear of running out of things to read… So all your book lovers out there, if you are someone who starts counting the pages left in the book you read, and feel sad about it getting over, you have possibly found your ultimate fear factor! 🙂

2. Infomania: It refers to the desire or constant requirement of gathering information from various sources, like phones and computers, basically the internet.

3. Muggle: Yeah… Now where did we hear that word last..Hmm? Harry Potter! The word is used for a person who does not have the skills or ability for a particular kind of activity.

4. Screenager: Are you a teenager or in your twenties? And do you have a liking or interest towards computers and the internet? If yes, you might just be a ‘screenager’!!!

5. Selfie: You see all those pictures people put up on Facebook and other such sites that are clicked by themselves? These kinds of photographs are called ‘selfies’ and the word was recently added to formal dictionaries.

6. Glossolalia: There are times you just don’t know what the other is saying, while in conversation, right? That weird flurry of supposed gibberish actually has a word for it. Glossolalia!

7. Kakorrhaphiophobia: That weird time when you think there is absolutely no way you can make it to success. That uneasiness, that fear of failure, to be precise, is called Kakorrhaphiophobia. I’m scared of failing to pronounce this word correctly, by the way.

8. Mammothrept: We bet many of you have been totally spoilt by your grandparents? For children who were brought up by their grandmother and spoilt too, the word Mammothrept is used.

9. Neanimorphic: How old do your parents look to you? Older than they are? Or younger. People who look younger than they actually are, are called Neanimorphic.

10. Tetrapyloctomy: Do you feel you have gone crazy going through these crazy words, and feel like tearing all your hair in four pieces each? Well, English language has a word for that too… Tetrapyloctomy! :D… Have fun!
